As a new member of the debate on the Europe electronic forum organized at
the initiative of the Aliance for a Responsible, Plural and United World, I
would like to introduce myself.
My name is Melita Richter Malabotta, I was born in Zagreb, Croatia, former
Yougoslavia, in 1947. I graduated in sociology and obtained MA in urban
studies (University of Zagreb, Faculty of Philosophy). Worked in City
Planning Institute of Zagreb till 1980 and then moved to Trieste, Italy,
where I married Gianni (a sea pilot) and where my sons Jan and Kosta were
born.
Author of several sociological researches and articles about urban and
environmental problems in Yougoslavia, co-author of the book "Conflittualita
Balcanica - Integrazione Europea" (Balkanic Conflictuality-European
Integration), Trieste 1993 and Editor of the book "Altra Serbia, gli
Intellettuali e la guerra" (The Other Serbia, Intellectuals and War), Milano
1996.
Preparing a book on "Identity and Gender in Former Yougoslavia" (Editor
Europe and Balkans, Bologna University).
At present my main interest concerns the creation of new State-nations and
nationalism in the Balkan area, the European integration and transfrontier
cooperation (particularly in the border area of Trieste -Slovenia-Italy,
Euroregion Istria) and in gender issue.
I am also wery much interested in migration and interculturality issues, as
one of my activities in Trieste is cultural mediation in schools (from
elementary to high schools). I am one of the founders of "Multietnica"
association in Trieste.
Member of ISA, International Sociological Association,
Member of HSD, Croatian Sociological Assosiation,
Member of Ce.r.e.p.i., The Center for International Ethno political
Research, Roma/Trieste.

Mon nom est Melita Richter Malabotta, je suis ne a Zagreb, Croatie, ex-
Yougoslavia , en 1947. J'ai un diplome en sociologie et ai obtenu un MA en
etudes urbaines (Universite de Zagreb, Faculte de Philosophie). J'ai
travaille a l' Institut du Planification d'urbanisme de Zagreb jusqu'a 1980
et alors j'ai demenage a Trieste, Italie ou je me suis marie avec Gianni (un
pilote de mer) et ou mes fils Jan et Kosta sont nes.
Auteur de plusieurs recherches sociologiques et articles au sujet de
problemes urbains et de l'environnement dans Yougoslavia, co-auteur du livre
"Conflittualita Balcanica - Integrazione Europea" (Balkanic Conflictuality -
Integration europeenne), Trieste 1993 et Editeur du livre" Altra Serbie, gli
Intellettuali e la guerra" (L'Autre Serbie, Intellectuels et Guerre), Milano
1996.
En train de preparer un livre sur "Identite et Genre dans ex- Yougoslavia
Precedent" (Editeur Europe et Balkans, Universite de Bologne).
A present mes centres de l'interet principaux portent sur la creation de
nouvelle State-Nations et nationalisme dans la region balkanique,
l'integration europeenne et cooperation transfrontaliere (en particulier
dans la zone frontaliere de Trieste - Slovenia-Italy, Euroregion Istria) et
sur question du genre.
Je m'interesse beaucoup a la migration et l'interculturalite , etant donne
qu'une de mes activites a Trieste est la mediation culturelle dans les
ecoles (d'elementaire aux lycees). Je suis un des fondateurs de l'
association " Multietnica" a Trieste.
