Being one of the first conclusions of the REDALC
study to lower the barriers to let the users in the future enter the communication
network, the need to create an e-mail interface for novice users was realized. This has
been adapted multilingual to IBM compatible systems.
The REDALC office developed MULBRI ("Mensajería
Unión Latina Al Beneficio De La Redes De Investigación", Messager of the Latin
Union for the Benefit of Investigation Networks) first for internal use (Connection
between the offices of the Latin Union and the world), and afterwards for the
investigation networks.
The first version was for networks of the type european
EARN - BITNET and used a protocol adapted to the 'VMS' machines adapting the SIM - PC
emulator. Later a version for UUCP was developed which received progress thanks to
interactions with users of the dominican REDID network. This shows the publication "The MULBRI
interface and the information administration in academical networks". (In "A
new way to communicate your knowledge", pp211-224 UNESCO/CRESALC, 11/1993)
This work was presented in the Network Servie Conference,
Pisa, Italy, 11/1992 (See "Report on
Pisa Conference", D. Pimienta, Internet Society News, Vol.1, No.4, 1992) with the
title "MULBRI,
a State of the Art PC Based Interface to Research Networks" from Didier Dupy
D'Angeac (1992)
Unfortunately there weren't the financial possibilities
to optimize this product (i.e. with TCP/IP) which had great functionality (like
multilinguistic, DOS / graphics).
You can download the installation
program for MULBRI-UUCP and the user
guide which was worked out again in 1995 for users of the REDID network.
Concepts
Anyway, much of our concepual strenght and work about the
user and the information administration lets us continue with the projections about how
has an novice user interface got to be.
Look as well at the communication "This is what they
call communication software", explained during the realization of the MESA-L as
integral part of the Anual Convention of the Venezolano Association for the Advance of the
Science, ASOVAC. P. Liendo, Nov. 1994.
