NETWORKS AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

As a part and complement of the methodology of REDALC, FUNREDES has worked out a helping guide concerning negotiations and the well-understanding between investigation networks and telecommunication operators.
It is written down in the publication: Profitable relations between telecommunication operators and investigation networks.

This publication has been presented:

• in the V. forum of latinamerican networks (1996 Lima, Peru)
• in INET 1996 (Canada),
• and in the meeting of the International Telecommunications Society (ITS 11th biannual conference in Sevilla 1996 "Telecommunications: An Engine Of Social And Economic Development").

The principal concepts of FUNREDES were explained in the Meeting of the 'Unión International De Telecomunicaciones'. ITU/Unesco, Geneve, Swizerland, 11/19 93, ("Economic Constraints to Effective Utilization of Telecommunications in Education, Science, Culture and the Circulation of Information") which results have been adopted in the final resolution of the World Conference of Telecommunication Development in Buenos Aires, April 1994 (ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference) It was published in "The right to communicate, at what price" ,UNESCO 1995 .

Projects of FUNREDES with participation of telecommunication companies

• in the Caribbean:
  • Project TELESINERGIA for telecommunication operators
• in the Dominicanan Republic
  • With CODETEL (Dominican Telefone Company) for the project REDID.
    FUNREDES negotiated the convention between REDID-CODETEL (1992-1996)
  • With AACR (All America Cable and Radio Inc.)
    • Representation in INET94
    • Organization of the inicial operation of the INTERNET service (1995)
    • Concerning TELESINERGIA: Project AACR about the integral formation at the Internet, PASCI (1995)
  • With TRICOM: 1996 we signed an interchange convention between FUNREDES and TRICOM which enables connecting the node FUNREDES.ORG to the INTERNET.
• In Haití: Help negotiating with ACN private telematic service provider, 1992, 1993 and 1996 for the project REHRED
• Help negotiating in the investigation network of Uruguay, look at the letter to ANTEL (Telecom operator of Uruguay)
