I need some help.

I'm working on a paper/presentation on the importance of the Internet in
the economic life of a country. I'm looking for the taxonomy of developing
nations as used by the World Bank or economists when they group different
economies. I don't know how many gradations they have, but most would agree
that the Holland is doing better than Chile which is doing better than
Chad. Are there terms that are used for the various levels?

We have six levels for network connectivity, and we will describe what each
means and its effects. When I get further I'll ask for input or feedback
from this group.

Meanwhile, readers may be interested in the transcript of a Public
Broadcasting System news program last night on e-commerce. Andrew Shapiro,
author of The Control Revolution (controlrevolution.org) was the guest who
talked about the negative apsects of e-commerce. The whole piece is worth
reading:
web-cr05.pbs.org/newshour/bb/cyberspace/july-dec99/economy_7-7.html

In it they mention a very recent study by U. of Texas Center for Research
in Electronic Commerce (funded by Cisco) on how the Internet economy is
performing. It is exceeing all expectations. $300 billion in revenue and
1.2 million jobs in 1998. This link will get you started:

and there is a site that will have quarterly updates. It has much more
detailed information.

Thanks for any advice you can give. Replies to me or to the list are
fine.
