Case Studies
During the CaribCad
development, two pilots were conducted.
The
Pilot 1 was of the "Heritage" and "presentation"
type: regeneration of (paper) drawings of existent buildings
This
project dealt with the digitalisation of the existing paper drawings
for a refurbishment project of a hospital in The netherlands. It specially
focused on:
- sharing
and drawing conventions
- active
designer participation in distant visualisation work

The
Pilot 2 was of the "joint venturing with local firms" type
The
Pilot 2 was conducted in two phases. The first phase addressed the issue
of outsourcing work on a new construction project, a swimming pool constructed
in the UK. The second phase reversed this situation; the project was
built in the DC and the local firm sub-contracted to the European office
to provede the "local presence" and DC specific knowledge.
Emphasis was on
- sharing
product information
- visualisation
- partnering
styles
- sharing
"local presence" information
