La revista es un proyecto de los centros culturales
del mismo nombre en la región. La responsabilidad
de la concepción, producción y edición le
corresponde al centro cultural con sede en la
República Dominicana, dirigido por Marianne de
Tolentino.

La revista Cariforum
tiene ya más de un año
de existencia. Su propósito es levantar un puente
en la región del Caribe insular para abrir
participación a una idea cultural y artística de un
"Caribe de Todos", que va más allá de los límites
geopolíticos y económicos.
Cariforum es el intento de una expresión del Caribe
que se mueve en la creatividad, en el pensamiento y
en el patrimonio cultural de los diferentes países
e islas que componen esta región.
A la vista de su última edición están presentes
Cuba, Jamaica, Aruba, Haití, República Dominicana,
con una gran variedad de temas que corresponden a
la pluralidad de pensamiento y de creación de esta
región.
LOS ARTÍCULOS. El artículo del musicólogo y
especialista cubano Antonio Gómez Sotolongo, sobre
los tambores y su evolución del campo ritual de la
santería al mundo profano, es un ensayo de interés
y acceso a todos los musicólogos interesados en los
batá, pero también a los percusionistas
contemporáneos, sin descartar a todos los lectores,
curiosos de conocimientos bien centrados.
Gómez Sotolongo, discípulo del maestro cubano
Fernando Ortiz, se extiende en precisiones de gran
erudición, que demuestran con mucha claridad la
visión global y particular del Caribe, necesaria
para articular mejor los polos de diferencias.
Para estas funciones, los instrumentos sagrados que
se utilizan en el culto son los batá, conjunto
integrado por tres tambores de doble parche. Hoy es
ya un hecho consumado que las agrupaciones cubanas,
junto a la batería tradicional, empleen un set de
percusión en el cual nunca faltan los batá.
El arsenal organológico de la santería cubana salió
del toque y se emplazó en el baile público.
REFLEXIVO. Marcio Veloz Maggiolo interviene con un
texto de reflexión, de manera que bajo el título
"El Caribe dónde está" pone clara la idea, un poco
falseada, de que el Caribe es una unidad cultural.
El intelectual dominicano asume con valor el deseo
globalizante de ver el Caribe siempre como una
posible presa total: "Proclamo, reconocer la
diferencia y la divergencia para llegar a ciertas
zonas de unidad cultural que nunca serán totales".
Soraya Aracena, antropóloga dominicana, presenta
una bibliografía para los estudios afroamericanos
en el Caribe.
UN MÚSICO. De Jamaica, Irina Leyva Pérez nos
presenta y revela al músico jamaiquino Leonard
Daley, considerado músico intuitivo, autodidacta y
popular.
Los artistas y creadores encuentran toda la
información sobre la segunda exposición
intercaribeña itinerante, que producirá el
Cariforum.
Destacamos del reglamento que funda su concepto en
obras exclusivas sobre papel. En su totalidad
editorial, la revista intenta la pluralidad de
ensayos con relación a las diferentes ramas
artísticas.
Como en los temas de reflexión, la pluralidad
también se confirma en la procedencia de los
escritos y de las participaciones con autores de
las diferentes islas.
La revista luce una buena presentación, llevando en
portada una foto de la fotógrafa de Curazao Ellen
Spikstra, con un artículo sobre la misma, firmado
por la directora del centro Cariforum de Santo
Domingo, y editora de la revista Marianne de
Tolentino.
Tolentino informó que la revista está en venta en
las librerías de la Alianza Francesa, Thesaurus,
Mateca y Casa Cuello.
Para suscripciones, los lectores se pueden dirigir
al Centro Cultural Cariforo, ubicado en el Palacio
de Bellas Artes, primera planta.Los interesados
podrán adquirir los tres primeros números, antes de
su próximo agotamiento.
La revista tiene el mérito de abrirse a los temas
culturales y artísticos internacionales que tienen
que ver y compartir con una visión abierta y
crítica de los valores culturales intercaribeños,
es un esfuerzo que se lleva en tres idiomas, con
mucha aplicación y cuidado en las traducciones.
La autora es crítica de arte, miembro de AICA.
