NDATT Theatre Festival Committee Trinidad and Tobago hosts first ever Caribbean
Theatre Festival The French, English, Dutch and Spanish speaking countries of the Caribbean
region will come together in Trinidad and Tobago to participate in the
first ever Caribbean Theatre Festival - October 23-27, 2001. Fifteen (15) plays
will be presented by Guadeloupe, Nevis, The Dominican Republic, Antigua
and Barbuda, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St.
Maarten, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago at the Naparima Bowl, Central Bank
Auditorium, and Fairfield Complex - Tobago.
UNESCO and HIVOS, a Dutch funding organisation, have pledged just under
50% of the funding for the project, hosted by the Caribbean Regional Alliance
of Theatre (CARA), in conjunction with the National Drama Association of
Trinidad and Tobago (NDATT). It is hoped that Government, the Tobago
House of Assembly, and private businesses will provide the balance of funds.
All presentations will alternate between the Central Bank Auditorium and
the Naparima Bowl, beginning with a gala opening at the Central Bank on
October 23rd, 2001. Tobago will host two performances by visiting groups on
October 25th at Fairfield Complex. Workshops and school performances are also
planned.
