Archie -- did your survey include many inactive accounts?

While that might explain part of the difference, there must be more. Could there be a systematic difference in the types of accounts or usage patterns in the two communities? (I believe Daniel based his estimates on traffic generated by "typical" users).

For example, browsing at a tourismm www server would generate a lot of traffic, while email between two researhers would not.
