This is an outrageous statement. The JAMNet project, consisting in the full connection of Jamaica to the Internet was put in place by joint collaboration between the OAS/RedHUCyT/CUNet project and the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST). Specifically, the OAS assisted in coordinating the interconnection, provided the equipment and technical assistance, including the team that went on a blitz trip from Costa Rica to Jamaica to assist in the final stages of router programming and fine tuninig. Connectivity in the US was provided by NSF and Sprint. UWI and CAST undertook the responsibility of paying for the recurring telecommunications costs and NSF pays for Sprint port charge. Archie Marshall spent several weeks in Jamaica under an OAS contract to assist in this effort.

By the way: Belize connects through Randy's network in Oregon,
and Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent through Canada (COL) and... According to Pimienta this then may not be part of CUNet. He seems to decide what is or what is not part of the project...

Mr. Pimienta's insinuation that the JAMNnet project was put in place by the Canadians and the European Union is not only absurd but perverted.

Or perhaps is this nonsense also a corollary to Pimientas' "methodology" or queue theory? I suggest calling up Mr. Keith Manison at UWI or Dr. Alfred Sangster at CAST and find out the details. It is that simple... Also, they should be able to send a full list of users, to whoever wants it. Similar information may be obtained from the other CUNet coordinators. Why not call Brian Candler in Belize? or Patrick Hosein in Trinidad? or Albert Daniels in Saint Lucia among others, who have been doing an outstanding job in their countries?

It should not be surprising that for somebody like Pimienta, sixteen hundred users at UWI and 200 users at CAST may indeed be a matter of "semantics." After all, he promised to interconnect ALL of Latin America...and of course we all know the results...

This only reflects my personal point of view and does not represent the opinion of the OAS or ISOC.
