As usual, I concur with Sam. And I'll openly wonder why this is such big
news for some when an existing system, the Simputer, is designed for
developing countries and is being largely ignored. Perhaps this '$100
laptop', *if* it becomes a reality, will suffer the same lack of support.
I hope to have a Simputer before I journey to Guyana next month. But I
wonder, if I do find it of value and write at length about it - I wonder
if anyone would consider manufacturing them locally (the hardware standards
allow *anyone* to manufacture a Simputer). I wonder what it
takes to get ICT people excited enough to do something with such things,
instead of just talking about such things.
Frankly, with Chinese businessmen's agreement with Venezuela (Chavez) to
build computers in Venezuela, it's apparent that the capacity is possible.
