New Strategy: Microsoft vs. Linux & Open Source

It would appear that Microsoft is thinking about a new strategy to slow
down the adoption of Linux and open source. It appears that Microsoft
might be trying to retroactively claim intellectual property (IP) rights
over some of the Internet's basic protocols.

The suggestion is that such legal claims would force users of Linux to buy
expensive insurance to indemnify Linux users against future legal claims.

On Microsoft's anti-Linux propaganda site "Get the Facts" there is a
research paper titled "Indemnification Becomes Open Source's Nightmare and
Microsoft's Blessing." Its premise? "The necessity of having to purchase
outside indemnification for Linux could negate the perceived savings of the
so-called 'free' Linux licenses over Microsoft's proprietary Windows."
