I haven't heard much on this list about the effects of Hurricane
Emily on Mexico. The news says that there hasn't been any loss of
life. That's good.

The Caribbean was a bit busy last week and this week, with a bomb in
Port of Spain, Hurricane Emily and before them both - Hurricane
Dennis. I have to admit that I expected more interest in these
things, with all the personal contacts we do have throughout our
region. Maybe we're not as close as we think.

I'd hate to think I was so far removed from reality that I could not
extend good thoughts to my friends in Mexico, Jamaica, Haiti, Grenada
and Trinidad and Tobago. I've been doing a lot of reading and writing
- and right now, I am wondering - openly - whether Latin America and
the Caribbean actually consider themselves from the same region.
