PLAYING AWAY (1986) � Trinidad & Tobago/UK - 1 hr 40 mins. To mark the
conclusion of their "Third World Week" celebration, a cricket team in a
small English village called Sneddington invites a black, predominantly
Caribbean cricket team from South London to a charity game with comical
results. The West Indians, however, find their hosts less congenial than
expected as they are forced to deal with the bigotry and racism of this
provincial English side. This is the second feature film by famed
Trinidadian filmmaker Horace Ov�. It is based a screenplay by
prize-winning
novelist Caryl Phillips from St. Kitts.

subtitles). The story portrays the Orisha Ogun, the god of war and
peace,
metals, and civilization, who is enamored of his mother and decides as
punishment to imprison himself in the mountains. Only Oshun, goddess of
love, succeeds in captivating him when she releases a few drops of honey
on
his lips. The myth is mirrored in the life of the prominent Cuban Yoruba
singer and founding member of the Conjunto Folkl�rico Nacional, L�zaro
Ros,
a true son of Ogun. In 2001, Ros received the Latin Grammy nomination
for
best folk album for his CD �Yemaya�.

repatriation to the home of his forefathers, the "Land of the Lions." A
unique docu-drama following one man's trip into self-discovery through
travel.

Haitian Song is a lyrical portrait of life in a small village in rural
Haiti. The film focuses on the "rituals" which compose the texture of
everyday life: getting water from the river; making rope by hand from
sisal;
cooking rice and beans in an outdoor kitchen; planting and harvesting.
Through intimate and detailed scenes, the film follows Gustav and
Zilmen, a
man and a woman, through the cycle of their day and follows the larger
community through the cycles of the week: the market on Tuesday; the
cockfight on Saturday; the dance on Sunday.
