Yesterday I was talking to a first language French
friend about the issue of languages and the internet.
She said that when she first began with email
discussion in the late 1980s in Africa the problem was
what Carlos describes here - acronyms, abbreviations,
jargon and what my friend described as "in jokes"
We've come a long way babies, but isn't it about time
that we cleaned up our act? In one language acronyms
are a bad habit, in a multi-lingual setting they are a
prescription for a nervous breakdown :-)
And this is not aimed at Jacqueline who works very
hard to keep us informed, but to all of US, because WE
do it all the time :-(
Deirdre
Note from moderation: IMHO OK.
Just kidding :-)
