10. THE WORKING PACE OF THE WSSs

"The WSSs keep a working pace according to their essence. Each culture has its own essence and each society keeps its working pace according to its culture and national interests. Each society values art as a pedagogic tool that encourages creativity, thus facilitating growth and complete development of human beings, both as an individual and collective...

The technology advances have made us keep a pace that not even weather conditions are able to follow (i.e. the phenomena of "El Nio and La Nia").

It is about developing the society starting from our real needs and not those which have been imposed by consumer societies. To produce our own resources and equipment according to the progress we have made (adapting and transforming technology and not following its trend, since it is about making technological progress at the pace of our development status and therefore to incorporate technology to benefit the local masses. It does not mean to fall behind nor to move inappropriately faster so as to avoid the risk of collapsing (SJ).

"Sometimes, when a person has been here and there, he or she realizes that it became very common to listen to what you want to listen and not to what is actually true... sometimes I suspect of the complex analyses that make you forget that one lives day-to-day... but real life is not like what speeches depict... In my utopia, I'd like to dream of a place where we can not only share the joy but also the pain of being human beings and not only the positive side... but also our miseries... I dream of a place that help us be free of the cynicism that taught us to see the world, a place where we can stretch fingers, hearts and heads in honest conversations; sometimes crazy ones; not always optimistic; pointless but also hopeful... a place where "being human" with its problems and beauties is permitted... I imagine utopia as a land of opportunities and not one of paternalism... a place that let us come back to the pure emotion... a constructive place" (MK).

"My dream is that a very good quality CD is sold at a convenient price, a CD made by an artist who is devoted to create and not to sell, so the young people would go to a bar to listen to some music... It is incredible to see that companies spend huge amounts of money to expand their bandwidth only for MP3s chains, mail and chatting and at the end of the day, sending a mail or a DHL package is still as slow as it used to be... From my viewpoint the ITCs should facilitate things so as to spend less time with the computer, to do more work, become more productive and be able to do other things. Once this becomes balanced and technology deviations disappear, our society will be able to live instead of surf the web" (HR).

That's why the young collaborators, "as good high school students" dream about technologies that would let them ask a computer to do their tedious school homework, take notes or travel virtually around the universe" (Mapa, Collaborators Synthesis).
